Marietta L. 'Retta' Cavallaro, 66, ran to Heaven to have coffee and meatballs on November 7, 2025. Retta was born on September 5, 1959 in Corning, NY to the late Anthony J. and Norma J. (Stevens) Cavallaro, Sr.
Retta was a graduate of Corning East High School, class of 1977. She was an avid athlete and was inducted into the Corning-Painted Post Hall of Fame for both swimming and track events. After graduation, Retta attended Alfred University and Buffalo State where she earned her Bachelors Degree. She worked as a traveling nurse for many years before retiring from private home healthcare.
Retta was deeply devoted to her community, always ready to lend a helping hand. Her love for animals led her to rescue and care for many in need. Retta never said no to anyone, even when it came at her own personal expense. Her loss leaves a huge hole in the hearts of her family and friends. She was an amazing mother, a loving grandmother, and a devoted sister. And for the first time in her life, Retta wasn't late.
Retta is survived by her children: Robert, Jr. (Stephanie) Scheer of Gibson, NY, Ray (Rachel) Scheer of NC, Samijo (Cody) Walter of Lockwood, NY; grandchildren: Ariah Raelynn Scheer, Austin and Dustin, Amara Rayne and Caspen John Walter, and Ray and Rachel's 7 children; siblings: Tony (Candy) Cavallaro, Domi (Rick) Riesbeck, Ray (Lola) Cavallaro, Maggie (Tim) Lott, Debbie (Brett) Pucci; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services will take place at the convenience of the family. Phillips Funeral Home, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning, NY has been entrusted with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Retta's name may be sent to the Chemung County Humane Society & SPCA, 2435 NY-352 NYS, Elmira, NY 14903. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Marietta, please visit our floral store.
