Michael L. Grimes

Michael L. Grimes, Sr., age 89, of Bonita Springs, Florida and Northville, Michigan, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his residence in Bonita Springs on Monday, November 10, 2025. Michael was born on May 28, 1936, in Flint, Michigan, the son of the late Wilfred and Margaret Grimes. He graduated from St. Michael's High School in Flint before attending Michigan State University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in engineering. After college, Michael was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served his country in Korea from 1959 through 1961. Michael worked for General Motors during his college years and following his return from active duty. He went on to enjoy a distinguished 39-year career as an engineer, retiring in 1999.
Michael and his beloved wife of 62 years, Carol, made Bonita Springs their home after retirement. He loved his community in Bonita Springs and cherished his summers at their home in Elk Rapids on Lake Michigan. Mike was a man of quiet strength, integrity and good humor. He loved golf, travel, euchre and was an avid reader. Known for his warmth, quick wit, and love of humor, he was a true gentleman who brought laughter to every room. He was always ready with a "Go Green" as he was a huge Spartan fan. Michael's greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his six beloved grandchildren.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Carol; his two children, Martha McMeekin (John) and Michael Grimes (Ellen) all of Northville, Michigan; his six grandchildren, Samuel, Hannah and Lily McMeekin, and Michael, Marcus, and Hope Grimes; one brother, John V. Grimes (Irene), of Arizona, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Margaret Richter and Mary Kay Geis.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Kenneth Catholic Church in Plymouth, Michigan, at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Henry county in Michael's memory:
