Raul Mungia Gonzales

Today we honor the memory of Raul Mungia Gonzales, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Born on August 28, 1950, in the city of San Benito, Texas, Raul was a passionate and spirited soul whose journey came to a peaceful end in his sleep on November 7, 2025, in East Lansing, Michigan.
Raul obtained a Bachelor's degree from Texas A&I University. His educational pursuit continued in Michigan, where he earned a Master's in Social Work from Michigan State University. Raul's commitment to education laid the foundation for a life dedicated to service and advocacy.
Retired from Community Mental Health, Raul remained actively involved in his community until his final days. As a testament to his devotion, he was serving on the Clinton-Eaton-Ingham Community Mental Health Board at the time of his passing. For over 4 decades, Raul stood as a highly respected and beloved member of the Greater Lansing Area Chicano community, making a profound impact that will not soon be forgotten.
Raul's Catholic faith guided his life with grace, and love. His infectious energy filled rooms, and those who knew Raul cherished his vibrant spirit.
An avid Spartan fan, Raul found joy in the strum of his guitar and the melodies of his singing. His music was more than a hobby; it was an extension of his soul. In the calmness of the outdoors, Raul found solace in tending to his garden, intricately caring for it with enthusiasm.
Beyond his public life, Raul was a family man at heart. He is survived by his daughter, Yvette Marie, and his adored grandchildren, Connor, Alena, and Dominic, who will carry forward his zest for life. His surviving brothers, and sisters, Ramiro, Victor, Maria Elena and Inocencia, remember him dearly as the youngest sibling in their family.
Raul Mungia Gonzales lived fully, loved deeply, and left a profound imprint on his community. Today, we honor a life lived with passion, and vigor. Raul's spirit will continue to shine in the hearts of those who loved him, and will forever resonate within them. We say goodbye to a man whose memory will live on in those who loved him most. Rest in peace, Raul; your melody will play on eternally.
