Edward Albert Sweeney, 99, passed away on November13, 2025. He was the husband of Ella R. Sweeney who passed away 2024. Born in Pittsfield, Mass. on January 14,1926 to Mary (Bagnaci) Sweeney and Clarence Edward Sweeney. His sisters, Edna, Mary, and Rose predecease him and a brother, Charles Sweeney predeceased him. Surviving siblings are his sister Gloria Newth of Torrington and a brother, Richard Sweeney of Florida.
Mr. and Mrs. Sweeney had 5 children. Patrick [deceased], Timothy, Robin, Dennis and Kevin. They also had 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Sweeney was a WW11 Veteran and was Commander The VFW post 296 of Winsted. He was a master wood craftsman. He was employed by Winsted Container Co. of Winsted and the Hitchcock Chair Co. of Riverton. His hobbies and interests included model trains [Torrington Model Train Club] and raising rabbits [Gay Rabbitry] for show. He was a member of the Redmen Club of Winsted. Also, he was a Scoutmaster and chairperson of the Boy Scouts of America.
Visiting hours will be at the Montano- Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street in Winsted on Wednesday 19, 2025 from 5-7 pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at the funeral home in Winsted at 10 am. Burial will follow at Forest View Cemetery, Rowley Street, Winsted with Military Honors.
