Edward Otto Thumann

Edward Otto Thumann, 91, of Pompton Plains, passed away on October 11, 2025.

The son of Otto and Sophie Thumann, Edward grew up in Dumont, NJ. He proudly served in the US Army and later had a long and successful career as an administrative analyst for IBM.

He lived a full and generous life and was devoted to his family. Edward had a loving marriage for over forty-five years with his wife Ruth and raised his family in Pearl River, NY. His children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren loved him dearly.

He was a parishioner at Cedar Crest's Protestant Church. At Cedar Crest, he led and participated in dominoes, Wii bowling, card games and other activities. He was an avid stamp collector and researched his family's genealogy extensively.

Edward is lovingly survived by his children, Richard Thumann and his wife Dianne, Susan Hamm and her husband David, and Scott Thumann and his wife Sharon; his grandchildren, Krystal McTighe, Tiffany Garrison, Carolyn Hamm, Michael Thumann, Eric Hamm, and Thomas Hamm; and his great grandchildren, Milo McTighe, Carter Hamm, Rhea Garrison and Gemma McTighe. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth, and his sister, Catherine Lewis.

Memorial visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 pm Saturday, November 1, 2025 at Scanlan's. A memorial service will conclude the visitation at 3:00 pm.
