Edward Franklin Vernon

Edward Franklin Vernon, "Frank" of Raleigh, NC passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord on December 20, 2025.

Frank was born on January 17, 1948 in Danville, VA to Edward Myers and Gertrude Juanita Vernon.

He grew up in Yancyville, NC with his sister, Mary, and graduated Bartlett Yancy High School in 1966. He went on to study Agricultural Engineering at North Carolina State University. After graduation, Frank spent time working for Perdue and living in Salisbury, MD where he met his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Hazel. Frank and Hazel moved to Raleigh, NC where Frank worked faithfully for the Department of Transportation until his retirement.

Frank and Hazel welcomed their only child, Stephie, in 1981, and whenever he wasn't working on his cars, they spent their free time serving in the church, traveling annually to the beach and occasionally overseas, including exciting trips to Europe and Australia, and a Mediterranean cruise.

After his retirement from the DOT, Frank spent even more time serving at church, including as a deacon and running concessions for the church's outreach events. He also found tremendous joy in his favorite role as "Pa" to his five grandchildren. He spent his final years visiting and spoiling his grandchildren and caring for his wife.

Frank loved the Lord, his family, and his '63 Corvette Stingray. He enjoyed conversations with anyone and everyone, working on his cars, metal working, and helping his fellow man. His kindness, faithfulness, wisdom, and generosity was unmatched.

Frank is preceded in death by his mother and father, Edward and Juanita Vernon, and his granddaughter, Salem.

He is survived by his wife Hazel, daughter Stephie (Joshua), sister Mary (Bill), grandchildren, Linden, Dresden, Riker, and Macon, and his nephews and their families.

A service to celebrate Frank's life will be held on January 19th, 2026 at Bay Leaf Baptist Church in Raleigh with visitation at 11:00am and service 12:00pm.
