Edward Guy Ward, 89, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2025 in Springdale, AR.
Ed was born May 21, 1936, in Medford, OK, the son of Frank D. and Lottie Mae (Abel) Ward. Following high school, he attended Oklahoma State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering. On December 14, 1958, he married the former Joyce Downey in Pawhuska, OK, a union that lasted for over 66 years.
Ed was employed by Cities Service Company and several of its subsidiaries. He held positions in several areas including research and development engineering, project evaluation management, corporate planning, budgeting and acquisition analysis, international business planning and project evaluation. His last position before corporate retirement was Director of Environmental, Safety and Security for Columbian Chemicals Company, a subsidiary owned by Phelps Dodge. He then began consulting in the areas of environmental remediation management in the fall of1986. Projects included were chemical plant dismantling, asbestos abatement, hazardous materials cleanup and disposal site closure.
Ed began his love for music in grade school and learned to play band instruments, specializing in French horn in which he played in the Oklahoma All State band and orchestra and OSU symphonic band and orchestra. Shortly after graduating from OSU, he discovered barbershop harmony, a hobby he has pursued for over 60 plus years. He was past director of the Methodist and Presbyterian Disciples Church choirs in Pawhuska, and was past director of Princeton, NJ and Tulsa, OK Barbershop Harmony Society choruses.
Ed was a member of the Presbyterian Disciples Church of Pawhuska, where he was not only the choir director, but served as the Church Treasurer. He was a member of Pawhuska Kiwanis Club for 28 years, where he was past president, secretary and treasurer and was Lt. Governor for 4 terms of Divisions 25 and 27 of the Texas-Oklahoma District.
Surviving is his wife, Joyce D. Ward; son Christopher G. Ward (Teresa); brother Dr. Melvin Ward (Sharon); granddaughter Kathryn Keene; great-grandchildren Kambree Ratliff, Kannon Englehardt and Kace Englehardt. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Rose Allison Ward, and grandson James Edward Ward.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, October 29, 10:00AM, at the Presbyterian Disciples Church, 101 E 12th, Pawhuska, OK. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to the Presbyterian Disciples Church.
