Edwin Alvarez

Edwin R. Alvarez, born January 9, 1947, in the Bronx, passed away peacefully in Suffern, NY, on September 24, 2025, with his devoted wife by his side.

Edwin was the son of Carlos Alvarez and Esther Marin. He grew up in the Bronx alongside his parents and siblings. In 1962, Edwin met Norma, the love of his life. They married on December 5, 1970, and soon after, began their family. In 1977, Edwin and Norma relocated to Rockland County, where they would continue to build a life filled with love and cherished memories.

Edwin dedicated much of his career to public service, working in security at the Nanuet Mall, then for the Nanuet School District, and finally for the Ramapo Central School District from 1988 until his retirement in 2011.

A true sports enthusiast, Edwin was both a Yankees and Mets fan. He found joy in listening to Motown, oldies, and classic rock .He had a passion for recording movies and DVDs to share with his family. His happiest moments were those spent surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Norma; his children: David and wife Kate, Michael and wife Sue-Lyng, Jennifer, Melissa and husband Craig. Edwin was a proud grandfather to Robbie (Brittany), Autumn, Blake, Logan, Sophia, and Mia, and great-grandfather to Kade. He is also survived by his siblings Evelyn and Charles (Alexis), sister-in-law Marcy (Sam), lifelong family friend Jerry Bershaw, nieces Nancy (Frank) and Ashanti (Craig), and many great-nieces and nephews.

Edwin is now reunited in eternal peace with his beloved parents and his brother Frankie, who predeceased him. His legacy of love, laughter, and devotion to family will live on in all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
