Visit the Newcomer Funeral Home - Akron website to view the full obituary.

Edwin F. Brobeck, a cherished educator, devoted family man, and passionate musician, left this world on November 25, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on April 5, 1937, in Rochester, Pennsylvania, Edwin's journey was defined by his love for music, commitment to education, and a deep appreciation for the beauty of the outdoors.

As a music educator and department leader in Bedford City Schools, Edwin dedicated his life to nurturing the artistic talents of his students until his well-deserved retirement in 1992. His passion for music began at an early age and flourished as he earned his bachelor's degree in Music Education from The Ohio State University. There, he distinguished himself not only as the first saxophonist in the Symphonic Band but also as senior class president of the School of Music. Edwin later pursued a Master's degree in Educational Administration from Bowling Green State University, complementing his exceptional teaching skills with strong leadership capabilities.

Throughout his career, Edwin taught at various institutions, including Willoughby-Eastlake Schools and Kirtland Schools, where his positive influence resonated in the lives of many students. He was not just a teacher; he was a mentor who inspired young minds to reach their fullest potential. With a personality that pushed people to do their best and an unwavering generosity, Edwin left an indelible mark on his community and beyond.

As a member of The Hillcrest Concert Band, Edwin continued to share his love of music for over three decades, playing saxophone from 1993 to 2023, infusing each performance with his vibrant spirit. His enormous love for music was paralleled only by his deep-rooted loyalty to The Ohio State Buckeyes, a passion that united him with countless fans throughout the years.

Beyond the concert hall and the classroom, Edwin found joy in the great outdoors. Whether backpacking through serene trails or gliding across snow-covered landscapes while cross country skiing, he reveled in every opportunity to embrace nature's beauty. His affinity for animals, especially dogs, further reflected his gentle and caring soul.

Edwin's legacy continues through his beloved daughter, Sarah Carter, who stands as one of his proudest accomplishments, and his extended family, including his children Susan (Ray) Wilcosky and Craig (Mette) Douglas, their children, as well as nephew David and niece Dodie. Though he faced the sorrow of losing his beloved wife Margaret (Cobourn) Brobeck, who shared 43 years of marriage with him, and his parents Ralph and Evelyn (Olson) Brobeck, as well as his brother Gene Brobeck, Edwin's life was a symphony composed of love, laughter, and lasting connections.

As we gather to honor his memory, we reflect on the vibrant melodies he created, the lives he touched, and the mountains he climbed. A visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home in Akron, Ohio on Thursday December 4, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM. The notes of Edwin's life will reverberate through all who knew him, echoing in the hearts of family, friends, and students alike—a testament to a life beautifully lived.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Geauga County Humane Society, Cleveland Clinic- Glickman Institute, or Habitat for Humanity.
