Britton, SD: The funeral for Edwin O. Brubakken will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2025 at the First Lutheran Church of Britton. Pastor Corky Spitler will officiate and interment will be in the Britton Cemetery under the direction of Olson Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be 5-7:00 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2025 at the church. Edwin O. Brubakken was born in Hillhead, SD to Ole Sr. and Gudrun (Smulan) Brubakken, he was one of nine children. He attended a one room schoolhouse through the 8th grade. Edwin worked as a ranch hand until being hired as a Body Mechanic at Thorpe Auto Co. On June 1, 1958 he married Joyce Helen McLaughlin. In partial retirement, he worked for Weber Body Shop before becoming a full-time grandfather, golfer, and coffee drinker. Edwin loved to converse with people, tell stories and jokes. He also loved to share his garden bounty with those he felt went the extra mile. It is this personality that allowed him to remain in his home until physical body life's end, due to the repayment and generosity of community members that went the extra mile for him. We are so grateful for this community support. Edwin passed away Thursday, May 22, 2025 at his home in Britton, at the age of 95. He is survived by his children, Dawn Brubakken-Sauer (James) and Corey Brubakken (Janet); his grandchildren, Major Adam Brubakken (Kati), Carly Burzynski (Taylor), Andrew Brubakken (Caitlin) Collin Brubakken and Shae Sauer-Elish (Nicholas); his great-grandchildren, Wesley and Warren Eddie Burzynski, and Elizabeth Brubakken. He is preceded in death by his parents and six of his siblings; his spouse, Joyce Brubakken; and grandson, Cason Brubakken. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Marshall County Nutrition Center-Meals on Wheels program.
