Mavis A. Wold

Rutland, ND: The funeral service for Mavis Wold will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 24, 2026 at Nordland Lutheran Church in Rutland. Pastor Julie Johnson will officiate the service. Burial will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN at a later date.

Mavis A. Hoflen was born August 31, 1929 in Britton, SD to Oscar and Alma (Anderson) Hoflen. She grew up in Rutland and has many fond memories of her younger years there. She graduated from Rutland High School in 1947. After graduation she went to Fargo to work for Corwin-Churchill for a few years. That is where she met Norman Wold.

Mavis and Norman were married on May 22, 1949 in Rutland. After a few years there they moved to Minneapolis and raised their two children, David and Mary. While in Minneapolis she worked for Ford Motor while Norm worked in the dealership. They took many fun family vacations, but the one that sticks out the most is taking their children to Norway. Another was their trip back to Rutland when they cooked and flipped the Guinness World Record largest hamburger.

She was proud of her Norwegian and Swedish nationality. She had been to Norway eight times in her life! During the fall she enjoyed attending Uffda Days in Rutland and celebrating her family nationality. She was at the very first Uffda Days and was at the final one this past year.

During her time in Brooklyn Park, MN she was a member of Cross of Glory Lutheran Church. In her home basement she had a gift store called Storvold for many years. She was always a busy person and enjoyed being around the company of others. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was very proud of each of them.

Mavis passed away Monday, January 12, 2026 at Four Seasons Healthcare Center in Forman, at the age of 96.

She is survived by her son, David (Mary) Wold; her daughter, Mary Wold; her grandchildren: Blake (Regina) Pemberton, Adam Grasch, Ryann Grasch, Kyle Wold and Emily Wold; and her great-grandchildren, Chase, Greta and Henry Pemberton.

Preceding her in death was her husband; her parents; and her two sisters, Gladys (Rusty) Silseth and Deloris Hoflen.
