Edwin Ray Kirby Jr.

Edwin Ray Kirby, Jr., 75, of Leasburg, died on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at his home. Born in Person County he was the son of the late Edwin Ray Kirby, Sr. and Bobbie Winstead Edmonds. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his step-father, Calvin Eugene Edmonds; brother, Michael Winstead Kirby; granddaughter, Taylor Elizabeth Hamlett. Mr. Kirby was a member of Long Memorial United Methodist Church.
In Ray's earlier years, he worked for Brown & Root Industrial Services as well as Piedmont Maintenance Services. Later, he worked for Bumpass Motors for many years and was the owner and operator of Mr. Franks Car Wash and his automotive retail business. He also was a race car driver of the #15 car in the late model series having raced most of his races at Orange County Speedway, South Boston Speedway and Martinsville Speedway. He was an avid NASCAR fan. Ray also loved listening to live music especially, bluegrass. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and most of all dining with the Timberland Supper Club.
Surviving are his daughter, Bobbie Kirby Boghosian (Stephan) of Durham; one brother, Tracy Reid Kirby (Rosie) of Roxboro; two grandchildren: Hailey Beshore and Macie Boghosian; nephews and niece: Michael G. Kirby (Kaila), Matthew E. Kirby (Amanda) and Amaris Kirby Elder (Wesley); two great-nephews: Michael Reid Kirby and Matthew Rhett Kirby.
The family will receive friends other times at the home of his brother, Tracy Kirby (7565 Leasburg Road, Roxboro, NC 27574).
Memorial service will be held 2 PM Saturday, July 13, 2024 at the Brooks & White Chapel with the Pastor Mike Whitt officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service (1-2 PM). The family will have a private burial in the Person Memorial Cemetery.
