Edwin Stritzl Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sheridan Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Jan. 22, 2026.
Edwin Paul Stritzl Jr., 77, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, in Sheridan, WY, at the VA Medical Center.

Edwin was born on November 20th, 1948 in Jamaca, New York. He grew up in Plainview and graduated from Plainview High School on Long Island. He then joined the Navy for 4 years where he completed two mediterranean tours and lived on a ship in Italy for part of his service. After that he obtained his x-ray tech certificate and decided to move west to Colorado, where he met and married the mother of his two children. Before settling in Colorado, they briefly moved to Vermont where he worked for the post office and also at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital as an x-ray tech. After a two-year stint, they headed back to Colorado where he worked at St. Anthony's Central in Denver, also for Red Rocks Community College and Red Rocks Amphitheater. Later, he moved back to Long Island and worked at Grumman Aerospace, until he was faced with a debilitating eye disease Glaucoma, which ultimately made him disabled. He next devoted twenty-five years of volunteer work at the Woodbury Cancer Center where he helped hundreds, if not thousands of cancer patients and family members. His voice would help calm their anxiety, and he would often bring laughter to an otherwise tearful conversation. When his parents passed away at 98 and 99, he finally made his way to Sheridan in 2015. This is where he spent his most joyful and final decade, living and enjoying the place he most loved. His children were his most rewarding gift in his life.

Edwin enjoyed the theater immensely. He loved to read. He was a poet by nature. He also enjoyed long walks and hiking. He loved to watch old nostalgic movies and British tv. He was a very gentle and kind man, always clever and witty, making people laugh was part of his charm. He was a very loving and giving soul to anyone he encountered.

Edwin is survived by his children, Jenny (Allen), and Amelia, grandchildren, Wednesday and Igby, sister Carol (Vic), nephews, Kenny, Keith (Wendy), Kevin (Janet), great nephews, Christopher and Brandon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Florence Stritzl.

Memorial donations to honor Edwin may be made to the Welch Cancer Center, PO Box 391, Sheridan, WY, 82801.
