Effie Anderson
Died November 9, 2025
SUTTONS BAY – Effie Ann Anderson, 84, of Suttons Bay, passed away at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City on Sunday November 9, 2025.
Effie was born October 12, 1941 in Cadillac, Michigan, the daughter of Dale and Bessie (Trowbridge) Green. On June 8, 1962 she married Robert T. Anderson of Suttons Bay at Immanuel Lutheran Church, who preceded her in death on December 13, 2019.
Effie was a strong and faithful woman who lived her life with grace, generosity and quiet determination. She was giving and caring by nature and loved deeply-especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who adored her. She found joy in caring for her family in countless ways and was still hemming pants for them even until her final days.
She played piano and was a skilled seamstress, Effie's hands were rarely still. She was talented in knitting, crocheting, and cross stitching and quilting and her creations became cherished family heirlooms. Each of her grandchildren had their own handmade Christmas stocking lovingly crafted by her, and she even made extra ones in anticipation of future great-grandchildren. She also loved ceramics and filled her homes with her beautifully crafted lamps, nativity scenes, Christmas trees and decorations that reflected her love for the season and her faith.
Effie grew up as the eldest of her siblings on her family's berry farm in Mesick where she learned the value of hard work and the sweetness of simple things. She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers, fruits and vegetables at their home in Suttons Bay. She found joy in canning and freezing what she grew. She played an integral part in cherry harvest every year, by driving equipment and making meals for the crew.
Effie is survived by her three sons, Myron (Carolyn) Anderson, Bruce (Lynda) Anderson, and Chris (Michelle) Anderson; her sister, Daleen Green, her grandchildren, Melissa Kelly, Bria (Travis) Wheeler, Bailli, Colton, Chase, Rachel (Jonathan) King and Nicholas Anderson; and her great-grandchildren, Keegan, Chloe, Kipton, Cohen, Novah, Kennedy, and Cambell. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Effie was preceded in death by her parents, and Bob, her loving husband of 57 years and her sister Elsie (Don) Oram.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 13th at the Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with the family greeting friends from 10 a.m. on Friday, November 14th at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Suttons Bay. Burial will follow in the Lutheran Cemetery of Suttons Bay. Pastor Jonathan Reid will officiate.
Memorial donations may be directed to Traverse City Seventh Day Adventist Church, 2055 4-mile Rd. North Traverse City, MI 49686 and/or Immanuel Lutheran Church of Suttons Bay, PO Box 206 Suttons Bay MI, 49682 in Effie's memory.
