Effie Evans McNew, 96, passed away peacefully at home in Clinton, Tennessee, on July 12, 2025 surrounded by her family. Effie was born in Speedwell, Tennessee, on June 11, 1929, to the late George Dewey and Hassie Partin Evans. She attended Powell Valley High School and worked in her father's business until she married Ben McNew in 1949.

She and Ben raised three children and lived in several locations around Tennessee until settling in Clinton in 1965. She was a member of Second Baptist Church where Ben served as a deacon for many years.

Effie was a passionate, intelligent, independent, spirited woman. She was a talented seamstress and arts and crafts artist, a gifted gardener and avid reader. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother and her truest passion was caring for her family.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Benjamin F. McNew Sr. and her beloved son, Benjamin F. McNew Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Regina McNew (partner Charles Richardson), daughter and son in law, Debbie and Chuck Fritts, her daughter in law Sue McNew; grandchildren Heather (Jon) Ward, Channon (Carolyn) Winchester, Matthew (Donny) Peter-Fritts, Leah (Bryan) Simmons, Rachel (Tyler) Mayes, Austin (Summer) McNew, Benjamin J. (Hallie) McNew, and Anthony Collins, Jr (fiancée Brooke Hall); great grandchildren Kileigh Houston, Evan Ward, Drew Winchester, Xavier Peter-Fritts, Diana Peter-Fritts, Brooklyn Simmons, Brysen Simmons, Riley Lansdon, Kate Lansdon, Ava Lansdon, Paxton Simmons, Kennedy Mayes, Jack Mayes, Elijah McNew, Winter Brooks, Autumn Brooks, Caroline McNew and Benjamin G. McNew; and brother Everette (Joan) Evans, as well as many loved nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank her friends and caregivers that assisted and allowed her to stay in her home.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on July, 16th, 2025, at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Clinton, TN.
