Dennis Lamar Cason of Clinton, TN, passed away on September 12, 2025, at the age of 89. He was born October 1935 in Georgia to Dr. Durward Veazey Cason and Ossie Spooner. Lamar was born totally deaf, which greatly influenced his life.

Lamar graduated from Hapeville High School in 1953, attended Mercer University in 1956 for his Bachelor degree and Georgia Tech in 1959 for a Masters in Chemistry. All of this was without any sign language interpreters. Throughout his academic studies, Lamar was known for his speedy track achievements, photography and intellect. Lamar's scientific career spanned well over 40 years from an assistant chemist at the Georgia Experiment Station in Griffin, GA to a scientific technical writer at the Department of Energy, Office of Scientific and Technical Information in Oak Ridge, TN.

Lamar was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Evelyn McCune, his parents, two brothers, Durward Cason Jr and James Hank Cason. He is survived by his two children, Steve Cason of Knoxville and Tammy Osborn (Jim) of Blaine, WA as well as multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren. Our family is thankful for the care and companionship Kristy Murray provided to both Lamar and his wife, Evelyn, over the past few years.

His children have fond memories of Lamar's darkroom/photography skills, filmmaking, soap box derbies, avid watcher of silent films, his love for golfing, his passion for charitable giving as well as his independent thinking and reading up to the very last moments.

The family will have a private Celebration of Life service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lamar's memory to the Union of Concerned Scientists or the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry. Holley Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of all arrangements. Holleygamble.com
