Beloved Mother, Wife, Sister and Friend
Eileen Eugenie Curry (Banks) passed away on March 23, 2025, in Naples, Florida. Eileen was born in West Bay, Grand Cayman on June 18, 1943, to Irene Banks (Henning) and James E. Banks.
The Cayman of Eileen's youth was a close-knit community who valued their faith, families, and community above all else. Running water and power were luxuries enjoyed by few, and most traveled to and from the island by ship. As a young girl, she fell asleep every night to the sound of the waves on the now famous Seven-Mile Beach.
As a result of her father's service as a merchant seaman supporting the allied war effort during World War II, the Banks family earned US citizenship and eventually settled in Miami. After graduating from Miami Edison High School in 1960, Eileen began working at Columbia Chase Federal Bank and helped support and care for her family in the years that followed.
Eileen married the love of her life, Robert Eugene "Gene" Curry Jr., on November 27, 1968. She and Gene were blessed with two daughters and lived in Miami for more than 17 years. The family moved to Naples in 1985 where, together with her sister Julia and brother-in-law George, Eileen and Gene co-founded G's General Stores, providing an invaluable service to the people of Golden Gate Estates.
Unfailingly patient, consistently understanding, and kind beyond measure her whole life, Eileen carried with her a love, grace, and wit that touched everyone she ever met.
Eileen is preceded in death by her husband, Gene, of 56 years. She is survived by her 2 daughters June (Chad) Norberg and Jill (Erik) Schmid; 4 grandsons: William and Johan Norberg and Logan and Dylan Schmid; a brother Loxley; 3 sisters: Julia, Sherilyn, and Lona (Rick); many loving nieces and nephews, her large extended family in the Cayman Islands, and many dear friends.
A Memorial Gathering for family and friends will be 11:00 am, Saturday, May 3, 2025 at Fuller Funeral Home Pine Ridge, 1625 Pine Ridge Rd, Naples. A Celebration of Life will follow at 12 noon.
