Smythe Curry Obituary

Smythe Shelton Curry Jr., affectionately known to everyone as "Bra," was born on October 28, 1949, in Horse Cave, Kentucky, to Smythe Curry Sr. and Ida Mae Curry. He passed away peacefully, leaving behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, and love that his family and friends will carry forever.

Bra grew up in Louisville, where he graduated from Central High School before attending Bellarmine University. He went on to serve his country with pride as a United States Marine and later served his community as a police officer. Those who knew him remember not just the uniform he wore but the heart and humor he carried into every room.

In the 1960s, Bra also made a name for himself in the boxing ring, competing in the Kentucky Golden Gloves at Louisville's Memorial Auditorium and later at the National Golden Gloves in Kansas City in 1969. Strong in spirit but gentle at heart, he fought with the same determination and courage that he showed throughout his life.

He is survived by his beloved children, Braxton, Tamara, Latoya, and Chanel; his siblings, Frances, Carolyn, Robert, and Alice; and several grandchildren. He is reunited in heaven with his parents, Smythe Sr. and Ida Mae; his daughter, Windy; his great-grandson, Jiovanni; and his siblings, Izetta and Michael.

Bra will be remembered not only for his service and accomplishments but also for the warmth he shared with everyone he met. His laughter, generosity, and love for family and friends will continue to inspire all who knew him.
