Elysburg – It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Eileen Marie (Goodlunis) Guarna, 79, of Elysburg, PA. Eileen passed on August 11, 2025, with her family surrounding her in love after a 7-year journey with cancer. Eileen faced her illness with a quiet, steadfast courage, carrying her burdens with such grace so she could keep holding close the family who were the center of her heart. Eileen was born on November 23rd, 1945 in Philadelphia, PA to her loving parents Florence (Lubeski) and Lawrence Goodlunis. She was a 1963 graduate of Mount Carmel High School.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Florence Goodlunis (Lubeski), her father, Lawrence Goodlunis, and her sister, Marilyn Huhn (Goodlunis).
She is survived by her devoted husband, Len Guarna, to whom she was married for 60 years. She is also survived by her children and their spouses, Lenny Guarna (Judi), Cheryl Guarna (Lindsay), Joel Guarna (Rachel) and granddaughter, Sylvia; her sister Laurel Scicchitano (Goodlunis) (Mike), her cousin Maryann Palovick (Jerry) and her nieces and nephews: Michael, Emily, Erin and Matthew Scicchitano, Lisa Donmoyer (Huhn) and Susan D'Archangelo (Huhn).
What brought Eileen joy were the simple, yet meaningful moments that reflected her deep love for family. She cherished time spent together during holidays, and just as much on ordinary days when no special occasion was needed - because being with her loved ones was all that she needed. Eileen was a beautiful soul, a beacon of love and quiet strength. She lived through the joys and triumphs of those she held dear, always putting their happiness above her own. A gentle yet steady force, she wove her family together with unwavering guidance, support, and boundless, unconditional love. Everything she did was guided by a simple yet powerful purpose: to ensure that her family had the best life possible.
While Eileen was the heart of her family, the kitchen was the heart of her home. It was there she poured her love into every holiday meal, from rolling out her treasured homemade pierogies to baking Christmas cookies with her granddaughter, Sylvia. She also found great joy in the sweet moments spent side by side baking with her niece, Emily.
Eileen treasured the family's yearly trips to the Outer Banks, which to her was her "favorite place on earth," where she would rise early with her daughter Cheryl to see the sunrise - and take in the peaceful beauty of the morning. She loved the simple joy of leaving the very first footprints in the morning sand.
Eileen had a genuine love for people and could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere. Before her final illness, she spent her summers working at the Christmas Shoppe at Knoebels, where she delighted in the camaraderie of friends and the joy of connecting with others.
Her legacy will live on in the lives she touched and the countless moments of kindness she shared. Eileen's passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew her, especially those blessed to call her wife, mom, sister, aunt, grandmam, and friend. We take solace in knowing that she will be watching over all of us, ever near and gently guiding our way – exactly how she would have wanted it to be.
