They lived on a farm near Morris until Eileen was 3 years old. After their farm was burned down by a lightning strike, their family lost everything. Eileen then met Floyd Asmus of Chokio, MN, who had just come back home after being discharged from the United States Navy and returned to farming in Chokio, MN.
Eileen and Floyd met at a dance in Donnelly, MN and it was love at first sight. They were married on November 4, 1947 and four children were born to this union, Cheryl, Thomas, Kathleen, and Cynthia. Floyd and Eileen loved to dance and went to Lakeside Ballroom every Saturday night until it burned down. She loved to decorate her home and also loved cooking and baking for her family. She loved her garden and flowers and was an excellent house keeper.
Floyd died in 1995 and Eileen remained a widow until 2004 when she married her long-time friend, Bill Haskins of Alexandria. They loved going on trips until his health started failing and he died in 2006. Once again, a widow, Eileen moved to the Galaxy Condominiums where she lived until 2025.
