Eileen Hayden Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc. on Jun. 1, 2024.
Dearly loved Wife, Mother and Grandmother, Eileen D. (Murray) Hayden, age 76, of
Staten Island, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2024 with the comfort of family by her side.
Eileen was born on June 8, 1947 in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, NY, the second daughter to
the late Peter and Catherine (Kay) Murray. Eileen had one sister, Carol, and enjoyed growing up in a brownstone with cousins who were like siblings to her. She attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help School all the way from grammar school through her high school graduation in 1964. Eileen went to work straight out of high school, first at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and then at Charles Plone Securities on Wall Street until the birth of her first child.
Eileen met the love of her life, James "Jim" Hayden (son of the late Andrew and Loretta Hayden) at her 18th birthday party through mutual friends and the two married at Our Lady of Perpetual Help on October 10,1970. Eileen and Jim moved to the Huguenot area of Staten Island in 1974 and their marriage was blessed with four children: son Dennis Hayden, daughters Deborah (Hayden) Monagle, Sharon (Hayden) Flynn and Jaime Hayden. In addition to her husband and children, Eileen is also survived by a legacy of eight loving grandchildren: Rylie and Farrah Hayden, Ryan, Brendan and Kevin Monagle, and Hayden, Declan and Reagan Flynn as well as sons-in-law Chris Monagle and Daniel Flynn, and sister Carol (Murray) DeLeo, several brother and sisters-in-laws nieces, nephews and a large number of cousins whom she cherished.
Eileen will be remembered for her striking blue eyes, kind heart, unconditional love and quick wit. When her children were young, Eileen was an active volunteer within their schools and sporting activities. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, especially during the holidays and entertaining and hosting friends for dinner parties. More recently, Eileen's most cherished role was that of "Nana". There was nothing she loved more than spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren. She created fun family holiday traditions and was blessed to enjoy many wonderful vacations, including recent trips to North Carolina, Cape May, and a Disney Cruise with them.
Friends may pay their respects and visit with the family at the John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals (28 Eltingville Blvd. Staten Island, NY) on Monday, June 3 from 2-5 PM and 7-9 PM. A funeral mass will be offered at St. Thomas Church (6097 Amboy Road, Staten Island, NY) at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, June 4 followed by Interment at Resurrection Cemetery (361 Sharrott Avenue, Staten Island).
In lieu of flowers, donations in Eileen's memory may be made to St. Jude's Children's
Research Hospital.
