Eileen D. Moken, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 30, 2026. She was born and raised in
Bayonne, New Jersey, by her parents Walter and Mary Stanek. She had three sisters, Marilyn, Geraldine and Margaret, whom she loved and admired. She married her husband of 58 years, Chester Moken, in 1955 and resided in Bayonne until moving to Maitland, Florida in 1975. In 2011, Chet and Eileen relocated to
Melbourne, Florida to be closer to family.
Eileen was a lifelong student of nursing and medical education. She graduated from Jersey City Medical Center School of Nursing in 1955. She returned to school and earned her Bachelors of Science degree from St. Joseph's College of Maine and went on to earn her Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix.
Much of her 50-year nursing career was spent at Florida Hospital working in their Pediatric Unit and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) caring for premature newborns. While working in Florida Hospital's NICU she and her colleagues, along with Orlando Magic's Darrell Armstrong's non-profit Foundation for Premature Babies, helped design Central Florida's first pediatric ambulance. Eileen was a proud member of the Florida Nursing Association and had many wonderful friends in the nursing community. She was active in the organization her entire life, serving as the local chapter president in 1997. Throughout her career she taught continuing education programs in pediatrics and neonatal care. She retired from Florida Hospital after 30 years of service and began a second career teaching at the University of Phoenix nursing program.
Throughout her life, Eileen volunteered for many organizations including Girl Scouts of America and the March of Dimes. She was a devout Catholic and member of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Bayonne, St. Mary Magdalen in Altamonte Springs and St. John the Evangelist in Melbourne. She loved to cross stitch in her spare time and shared many beautiful works of art with family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Eileen was predeceased by her husband, Chester (2013), and her daughter Michele O'Neill (2011). She is survived by three of her four children: Michael Moken (Debra), Jeanine Bert (Gary) and Jeffrey Moken (Jaymie), five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many extended family and friends. A celebration of life will occur at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital https://www.stjude.org/donate.
