Elaine Frances Berrie

1942 - 2025

Elaine Frances Berrie (Bromley) was born on Sept. 30, 1942, in Norwich, Connecticut, to Ethel Louise and Lewis Bromley. She passed peacefully at the age of 82 on Sept. 1, 2025, while in hospice care at her most recent home, Primrose Retirement Community in Wasilla, Alaska.
Elaine spent her childhood in Connecticut. Her two older brothers, Wesley Bromley and Herbert Bromley were both serving in the military during WWII at the time of her birth. She came to know them as a young girl when they returned from Europe. Elaine attended the Norwich Free Academy in Connecticut, and later the University of Connecticut, and the University of Georgia. Elaine married Peter M. Berrie in August of 1964 in Connecticut while working on her degree in Speech Pathology at UCONN. Elaine and Peter moved to Fairbanks in August of 1969 just after the flood with their daughter Dayna. In 1971, the couple then moved to Athens, Georgia, to continue their education. Elaine earned a master's degree at UGA during her time in Georgia, and it was there that their son Erik was born. The family returned to Fairbanks in 1974. Elaine worked at ACCA for years as a Speech Pathologist and then began a second career as a Resource Preschool Teacher in the Fairbanks School District in 1985, retiring in 2006.
Elaine made many friends during her years in the classroom and was well respected by her peers. Elaine is remembered as bright, reserved, thoughtful, and dedicated friend, and as having a wonderful sense of humor. Her circle of friends was small, but those friendships endured for decades and were some of the most important relationships in her life. Elaine is survived by her daughter, Dayna (Anthony); son, Erik (Victoria); grandson, Raymond Berrie USAF; and granddaughter, Shelby Maud of Tucson, Arizona.
A special thank you to friends Elsie Heffernan and Charlotte Cannon for their love and care for Elaine. The family would also like to thank Primrose Retirement Community for their kind care of Elaine these last few years, as well as Ancora Hospice of Wasilla. A brief graveside service will be held at noon on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025, at Birch Hill Cemetery.
