Mary Elizabeth Crosby Berrie passed away on April 1, 2025, at the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Hospice care center, surrounded by her daughters and grandaughters. Born in Dublin, Ireland, on August 25, 1934, she was the beloved daughter of Mary Angela Cahill and Peter Ambrose Crosby. She grew up in Rathmines and Terenure, Dublin, with her four brothers.
At 21, Mary emigrated to New York City, where she worked as a secretary for an executive at General Motors. Mary met Francis Murray Berrie, a Scotsman from Glasgow. Their shared faith and cultural values led to a deep love, and they married on October 31, 1959. Their love story flourished over decades.
After living in New York City, they moved to the Jersey Shore with baby Kathy, where their family grew to include Sean and Eve Anne. Mary balanced motherhood with creative passions, sewing elaborate costumes and transforming their home into a welcoming haven.
She and Murray later opened Entre Nous, an intimate, upscale beauty salon, where Mary managed the business with grace, ensuring clients felt special.
A fighter, Mary overcame endometrial cancer with unwavering faith. Despite health challenges, she remained a steadfast pillar of love and wisdom.
In later years, Mary and Murray moved to Mullica Hill, NJ, and then Ocean Pines, MD, joining the household of their son Sean, his wife Kelly, and their daughters. Eventually, Mary settled near her daughters and their families in Wilmington, NC, where she continued to cherish time with her loved ones.
Predeceased by her beloved husband, Murray Berrie, and her brothers, she is survived by her children, Kathy Berrie (Fred - widowed), Sean Berrie (Kelly), and Eve Anne Schechter (Marty), as well as her grandchildren, Sinead Smith (Bradley), Marisa Schaeffer (Zachary), Caela, Aisling, Emma, Luke, Alexis, and Jason, as well as great-grandchildren, Asher and Kieran. Mary was immensely proud of her children, as well as her grandchildren,
A Roman Catholic mass in celebration of Mary's life will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Castle Hayne. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Catholic Relief Services in Mary's honor.
