Elaine Joann Lampros passed away peacefully on August 12 at her home in Sarasota after a short battle with cancer. Elaine née Stratton was born June 27, 1932, in Chicago, IL to Steven and Sophia Stratton.
She met and married her husband Nicholas, the love of her life, in 1954. They both resided in the Chicago area until moving to Sarasota in 1999. She worked as an elementary and middle school teacher for over 30 years before retiring from the Niles school district.
Elaine was an active member of Saint Barbara's Greek Orthodox Church from the time they moved to Sarasota. She loved giving back to her community through the church.
Elaine had many and varied interests through her life. She was an avid reader, a crossword puzzle enthusiast, a needlepoint artist and seamstress, a wonderful cook and gracious host, a sports fan, and a lover of jeopardy and other quiz shows. However, of all of her interests and hobbies, her family was her greatest joy.
Elaine is predeceased by her beloved husband Nicholas, her parents, and her brothers Leon, William, and George.
She is survived by her daughter Victoria, brother James, granddaughter Kristina, great granddaughters Gwyneth and McKinley, great grandsons James and Samuel and a beloved extended family of many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Everyone who knew her was embraced by her as family. Her love was boundless, and she made everyone feel welcome. Her intelligence and wit were unmatched, and her kindness was felt by all. She will be missed greatly.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Saint Barbara Green Orthodox Church in Sarasota or Tidewell Hospice.
A wake to honor both her and her grandson Nicholas will be on August 21 at 6pm at Toale Brothers Funeral Home in Sarasota.
A Funeral service will be held at Saint Barbara's on August 22 at 10:30 am followed by Interment at Sarasota National Cemetery.
