Elaine Mary Pfender (nee Slaughter), a kind, pleasant, and dedicated woman, was born on November 29, 1926, in Philadelphia, PA. She resided in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania her entire life, where she created a beautiful home filled with warmth and love. Elaine was a proud and devoted homemaker, always putting the needs of her children and grandchildren first. She married her beloved husband, Charles Pfender, on January 11, 1947, and together they built a family.
In her younger years she was president of the PTA at the Northeast Village schools and was a volunteer worker in their office. A true people person, Elaine made friends wherever she went and was blessed with a wonderful social life where she had close friends in the neighborhood. She enjoyed her weekly "ladies club" night with her neighborhood friends, which went on for over 55 years. She loved her Atlantic City casino trips with her friends and in her later life Saturday afternoon lunches and movies. Elaine had a passion for having fun which included playing Rummy and Pinochle, watching late-night TV, and visiting friends and family. In later years Elaine greatly enjoyed the love and company of her mother who resided with her. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren from babysitting, attending activities and competitions, to finally playing cards and eating donuts at the nursing home. Elaine also had a soft spot for animals, especially her beloved cats.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Pfender; parents, Edward and Florence Slaughter; son, Dennis C. Sr, and an abundance of family and friends. Elaine is survived by her beloved daughter, Kimberly Parkes, and son-in-law, Jordan Parkes. She is the loving "Yaine" of Corey (Kim), Gabrielle (Adrian), Dana (Steve), Denise (Mat) and Dennis Jr. (Christina). She will be deeply missed by numerous great grandchildren, her dear cousin Gracie, and her faithful friend Joan.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Thursday, May 25, 2023, from 9:30 am until 11:00 am at the T.J. Fluehr Funeral Home, 11010 Knights Road, Philadelphia, Pa 19154, followed by her funeral service at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery.
