Elaine C. Taylor, 81, of Taylors, SC went to be with the Lord on February 16, 2023.
Mrs. Taylor wished to share her life's history in her own words by writing her own obituary six months before she passed away.
Born in Laurens, SC she was the daughter of the late Rev. Grange S. and Lily Mae Cothran. Elaine loved her family, friends, church, and the USC Gamecocks. She studied at Mars Hill College and Furman University but developed a passion for all things Gamecocks while living on campus in family housing as a young wife and mother, and for half a century rarely missed a Carolina football game.
A faithful follower of Jesus Christ, Elaine was a long-time member of Taylors First Baptist Church and worked serving the Lord in various administrative positions there for more than 40 years. She also served as a volunteer in many areas of the church, but her calling was faithfully singing in the choir. An avid student of the Bible and prayer warrior, she will be missed and remembered by many whose lives she enriched.
Elaine is survived by two grandsons, Taylor Gilliam of Sandy Springs, GA, and Chandler (Austyn) Gilliam of Chattanooga, TN; and her adopted family in Christ, James and Kathy Tankersley, and Andrew, Sarah, and Lyla Dobson.
Mrs. Taylor was predeceased by her only child and beloved daughter, Jacquelyn Taylor Gilliam; and one brother, Don Cothran.
A celebration of Elaine's life will be held, 2:00 pm Friday, February 24, 2023, at Taylors First Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held 12:30-1:30 pm Friday, February 24, 2023, in the Welcome Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Taylors First Baptist Church Missions Outreach, or Taylors Rec Center, 200 W Main St, Taylors, SC 29687.
