Elbert Hoard Obituary

Elbert Lester Hoard, affectionately known as “Ebby or Ebb,” was born on July 2, 1930, in Elsmere, Kentucky. He began his journey into the world of music, which would become the unwavering focus of his life. Elbert was a talented musician renowned for his skill as a bassist. He played with the well-loved Ebb and the Southern Comfort Band and was featured on the Midwestern Hayride on WLW TV throughout the 60s and 70s. His remarkable career also took him to the prestigious Grand Ole Opry and provided him the opportunity to perform alongside greats such as Willie Nelson and Roy Clark at the Ohio State Fair. His contributions to the music scene were honored with an induction into the Northern Kentucky Music Hall of Fame, a testament to his enduring legacy in the industry.

Beyond his musical achievements, Elbert honorably served his country as an Army veteran during the Korean War, where he was stationed in Washington D.C. and proudly served as a member of the Presidential Honor Guard. This experience reflected his commitment to service and dedication to his nation.

Elbert was married to Shirley for 63 years until her passing in 2014. Together, they built a life centered around love and family. He cherished the moments spent with his son, Daniel (Amy) Hoard; his daughter, Kristi (Glenn) Chapman; and his grandchildren, Ben Chapman, Ashley (Jason) Warndorf, and Justin Hoard. He also took great joy in being a great-grandfather to Cole Warndorf, fostering a lineage proud of the family values he instilled.

Elbert's interests extended beyond music. He had a deep love for his family and grandchildren and enjoyed fishing during his younger years. His passions showcased a man who embraced life fully, valuing relationships above all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Owen and Katherine Hoard (nee Edwards), his beloved wife Shirley Hoard (nee Foley), and his siblings—brothers Cecil and Tom Hoard and sister Loretta Atha.
