Rev. Elbert Davis Jones, age 80, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, December 11, 2024, in
Carthage, TX. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at the Church of the Living Waters in Tatum, TX, officiated by Bro. Gary Chambers, a longtime friend and fellow servant of the Lord. For more information, please reach out to Thomas Nichols V or Marissa Jones. Cremation arrangements are by Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home.
Elbert was born on June 5, 1944, in Center, TX, to the late Eugene Jones and Lela (Askew) Jones. In his early years, he worked on a chicken farm before becoming a truck driver. He later dedicated his career to TXU in Beckville, TX, where he worked as a dragline operator until his retirement. In 1988, feeling a calling from the Lord, Elbert founded the Church of the Living Waters in Tatum, TX, where he faithfully preached for 20+ years. He worked alongside fellow pastors to establish the Samaritan House, a Thrift Shop & Food Pantry, and went on several mission trips to Haiti. In his later years, Elbert continued preaching at Sunday night services at Pine Grove Assembly in Beckville, TX. He devoted his life to leading others to Christ, and when not preaching, he was either caring for his family or playing checkers, where he always talked about the goodness of the Lord. Elbert's love for his family knew no bounds, and he never met a stranger. He truly saw the good in everyone he encountered.
Elbert is survived by his loving wife of 60+ years, Patsy Leach-Jones; his son, Elbert Dewayne Jones; his beloved grandchildren, Kelsey Nichols, Thomas Nichols, and Safiyya Yayo, whom he lovingly adopted and raised as his own, as well as his grandkids, Marah Jones, Marissa Jones, Jeremiah Jones, and Jericho Jones, all of whom he cherished deeply; his siblings, Lou Ann Peeler and Jimmy (Bo) Jones; and numerous other family and loved ones.
Elbert is now reunited with his daughters, Pamela Marie Simpson and Tabitha Lea Jones.
Even though Elbert struggled with his memory in his final years, he never forgot how to pray. The last months of his life were spent praying with staff, guests, and fellow residents of Panola Nursing & Rehabilitation. Elbert touched countless lives and will always be remembered as a faithful servant of the Lord.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Panola County Nursing Home Memory Care Unit in
Carthage, TX, for the exceptional care provided to Elbert throughout this year. They also wish to express their sincere appreciation to RN/Chaplain Robert Fry and the Angels Care Hospice staff for their outstanding support and compassion during his final months. Additionally, the family is deeply grateful to Visiting Angels, especially Mrs. Donna Mason, for her devoted care while he was at home.
