Elder Walter A. Bishop, 71, of Youngstown, transitioned from this earthly tabernacle to his eternal home on January 9, 2026 at the Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with his family at his side.

Elder Bishop was born March 18, 1954, a son of Walter Sr. and Cornelia London Bishop. He was 1972 graduate of North High School and attended Finley University. He also attended the Eastern Ohio Western Pennsylvania Baptist Association where he took classes in theology. He was a full time pastor at Holy Temple Church of God In Christ, where he also served as Superintendent of Sunday School. He was a volunteer with Rescue Mission and as a Chaplin at St. Elizabeth Hospital. In his pastime, he enjoyed traveling, interior painting, was an avid Cleveland Browns fan, and his passion was being with his grandchildren, great grandchildren and family. He was a U. S. Army and Air Force Reserve veteran.

He leaves to cherish his memory and to celebrate his life and legacy, his wife, the former Cassandra Grissett, whom he married August 19, 2000; three stepchildren/godchildren, Tysha (Aldridge) Jones of Wellington, Florida, Patricia (Marty) Kimbrough of Youngstown and Gary (Andrea) Clinkscale of Phoenix, AR; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three sisters, Linda Cumberlander of Cleveland, Lora (Colis) Harris of Detroit, MI, and Toni (Joseph) Arthur of Williamsport, MD; and a host of family, church family and friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at the Holy Temple C.O.G.I.C. from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life service will follow immediately at 11:00 a.m.

Ministry of comfort and dignity entrusted to the L. E. Black, Phillips and Holden Funeral Home.
