Eldon Lee Lindquist, 87, passed away after a short battle with cancer on December 20, 2025 at his home. He was born in Pierre on May 13, 1938 to Bill and Laura Lindquist. He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church.
Upon graduation from Pierre Riggs HS, he joined the US Army. He served in the US Army Signal Corps from 1957 to 1960. Upon discharge from the Army, he returned to Pierre and he applied the electronics training received in the Army towards a career in two-way radio communications. After initially working as a two-way radio technician, he owned and operated Communications Center in Pierre for over 40 years. He also had an interest in aviation and obtained his Commercial and Certified Flight Instructor ratings.
Eldon was united in marriage to Betty Burke on January 12, 1963. After living in Pierre for a few years, they built their forever home on an acreage east of Pierre. Eldon and Betty welcomed 3 children into their lives, Mark, Lori and Beth. His influence on them included his love for the 'dirt' and growing things, his enjoyment of the water including water skiing, his entrepreneurial way of thinking and his love for the Lord.
Eldon enjoyed many outdoor activities from gardening to fishing to hunting. He was very proud of his large greenhouse and loved to show it off to visitors. He and Betty spent many hours canning and freezing produce each year. His family has many memories of hunting and fishing excursions as well as running set lines that were checked daily during the summer on the Missouri River near their home. He also spent the majority of his life involved with Amateur Radio. He was involved with the local Ham Radio Club for many years.
Eldon is survived by his wife Betty of 62 years and his children Mark (Jami) of Dallas TX, Lori (Tom) of Dell Rapids, and Beth (Matt) of Pierre. His memory lives on with his 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, Austin, Zachary (Lauren), Ashleigh, Luke (Vanessa), Matthew (Madison), Tyler (Emily), Jacob (Brooke), Lindsey (Ian), Whitney (Ben), and Joseph (Tori) and 4 great grandchildren Miles, Rhodes, Andrew and Aurora. He is also survived by two nieces Stacy (Roy) and LeAnne (Kelly).
Eldon was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Laura, his brother Verlin and sister-in-law Margaret.
