Dorie was born January 25, 1926 in Rudolph, WI, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bury. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids in 1943. Dorie married Charles "Chuck" Zimmerman on February 23, 1946 in Rockford, IL. They eventually moved to Durand in 1952 where they raised their boys and began farming.
Dorie was very involved with Chuck on the family farm and also in many farm programs, such as the Winnebago Soil and Water Conservation District. A highlight of her farm life was becoming the first woman chairman to the state of Illinois Conservation Advisory Board.
Dorie was involved in many organizations throughout her life. She was very active in The American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed writing for the newsletter. Dorie also had a strong Christian faith and attended the Rockford Bible Study group for many years. Her pastime passion was working in her garden and enjoying her many flowers, plants and trees.
Survivors include: Son Dennis L. (Mary Jean) Zimmerman; grandchildren Jeffrey Zimmerman, Amy (Greg) Shuman, Aaron (Chrisy) Zimmerman and Troy (Morgan) Zimmerman; Great grandchildren Kayla and Zachary Shuman, Connor, Riley and Parker Zimmerman.
Dorie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles and son David.
A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, August 7, 2021 in McCorkle Funeral Home - Durand Chapel, 101 Main St. Durand, IL with Jim Sacia officiating. Burial in Durand Township Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until time of ceremony, Saturday.
