Eleanor E. Cook, 96, of Chillicothe passed from this life on Thursday December 4, 2025 in National Church Residences. She was born on February 27, 1929 in Chillicothe, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Doris (Irwin) Zonner. On July 4, 1948 she married Elwood Cook who preceded her in death on October 26, 2001.
Surviving are her daughters, Deborah J. (Darrel) Graham, AZ; and Linda I. Cook (Paul Carpenter), Chillicothe; her sons, Michael E. (Eleanor) Cook, South Salem; and Christopher L. (Jean) Cook, Miamisburg, a son-in-law, Robert Swank, Jackson; 13 grandchildren, multiple great-grandchildren, a sister, Bea Gallaugher, Chillicothe, and a brother, Lawrence Zonner, Chillicothe. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Carolyn F. Swank, and a sister, Lucille Merrill.
In her earlier years, Eleanor was an accomplished seamstress, working for several women's clothing shops and department stores. She later went to work for Rinks Bargain City until they closed. A member of Tyler U.M. Church, she belonged to the Kingdom Builders Sunday School Class. She and Elwood were members of the “Rosie Reds”, a fan club for the Cincinnati Reds, the Century Club, the Ross County Historical Society and the Lucy Webb Hayes House. Eleanor was an avid reader, and took up quilting in her later years.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday December 19, 2025 in Greenlawn Cemetery, with her son, Michael Cook, officiating. Public calling hours will not be observed. Friends are welcome to call on the family after the service at Eleanor's home, 1685 England Hollow Rd., Chillicothe, from 12:30-2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Eleanor’s name to the Chillicothe and Ross County Public Library or the Lucy Webb Hays House.
