Eleanor Cressey Obituary

Born on November 16, 1932, Eleanor Cressey, passed away peacefully in her home in Absecon, NJ on November 20, 2025. A devoted wife, mother, Mom-Mom, and caregiver, she gave of herself, so that others in her presence knew the meaning of true love. Her care was like no other with an attention to detail that shined from a beaming light that began in her heart and escaped through her kind eyes and smile.

True to Catholic faith and tradition, our mom had the qualities of deep, abiding love and sacrifice in exponential quantities! She loved us as deeply as anyone ever could and she gave of herself completely. Eleanor lived on her feet, serving her Lord and family. Her greatest roles were mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend. As Father Cosme shared so well, she served as a Eucharsitic Minister and the laundry lady to Jesus at her parish, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. In this role, she cleaned the altar linens and tailored the priest's vestments; as well as set up the saint's flowers for each season, holiday or special celebration. She had a friendship group, Chi Delta Sorority that spanned her entire life following high school. This amazing group of women supported each other through the good and bad times with the fun times always prevailing. Betty Jane Kane and Mary Wilson were two of the women that to her last breath, she spoke of proudly as her best friends.

She was predeceased by the love of her life and husband, Richard, her beloved granddaughter, Jennifer, and her son in law, Joey. She is survived by her children: Paula, Rick (MaryPat), Roy (Karen), Margaret Ann ( John), and Maryann (Kelly); her 12 grandchildren (Kristina, Currie, Richard, Danielle, Teighan, John Michael, Marissa, David, Juliana, Ellie Rose, and Alana; and her 11 great grandchildren. Mom has always taken the most pride in her family and the legacy that she leaves behind is reflected in all of those lives that she touched.

Death will not limit her, we believe that we will continue to see her in our lives in many predictable ways and likely some less predictable. This will be witnessed each time we fix our children's hair with neatness, plenty of water, and ribbons for the girls. It will be seen when a favorite song comes on and we can hear her singing and envision her dancing. We expect to feel her presence when considering the simple things that dominated her later life: a delicious meal, a sweet treat, black cherry vanilla ice cream, singing and dancing to favorite music, and most importantly, enjoying people she loved close to her.

We know she is always with us.

Services will be at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 beginning with the Visitation at 9:45 -10:45 a.m., followed by mass at 11:00 a.m. and continuing with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery in Mays Landing, NJ. Arrangements are made by Parsels Funeral Home, 324 New Jersey Avenue, Absecon. For online condolences, please visit www.parselsfh.com.

My sincere sympathy to Mrs. Cressey´s family. Her obituary is so beautifully written and captures everything about this truly special lady. I met her as the teacher of quite a few of her grandchildren at Absecon Nursery School. Her love and devotion was second to none and I smiled about the ribbons in the hair. I know she is terribly missed.
