Resting Place Funeral Home - Baton RougeEleanor Marie Dukes, a woman of grace, style, and boundless love, was born in Chicago, Illinois, and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She passed away peacefully at St. Clare Manor at the age of 59, leaving behind a legacy of elegance, generosity, and devotion that will forever be cherished by those who knew her.
A proud 1983 graduate of McKinley Senior High School, Eleanor pursued her passion for beauty through cosmetology school before dedicating much of her life to caring for others as a Certified Nursing Assistant. In every role she held—whether tending to her patients, perfecting a hairstyle, or preparing a meal—she poured in her heart, her skill, and her unmistakable flair.
Eleanor was a true Southern diva—always impeccably dressed, carrying herself with poise, and never afraid to add a touch of “bougie” to any occasion. Her favorite meal was steak and shrimp, and she loved it so much that if it wasn’t being served, she would bring it herself and cook it—because everyone knew no one could do it better than Eleanor. She especially enjoyed cookouts, where she could share good food, laughter, and precious moments with her family.
Family was the center of her world. She treasured time spent with her loved ones and treated her beloved dog, Cloud, as her own child. Her warmth extended beyond bloodlines, embracing friends who became family and patients who became dear to her heart.
Eleanor is survived by her father, Joseph (Thelma) London Sr.; siblings Trissa Nelson, Joi London, Joseph (Katriena) London Jr., Janeen (Yolanda) Mikell, Jada London (John), and Jesse (Donnisha) London; her godfather, John Nelson; devoted friends Mel, Gail, Rita, Carla and her cousin Sue; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Derek Dukes, and her mother, Janet London Hollis.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. at Bible World Christian Center, 1771 N Lobdell Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70806. Burial in Resting Place Memorial Garden. Professional services are entrusted to Resting Place Funeral Home.
Eleanor’s life was a beautiful blend of compassion, style, and joy. She leaves behind not just memories, but a shining example of how to live fully, love deeply, and always arrive dressed for the occasion.
