Milton Scott Obituary

Visit the Resting Place Funeral Home - Baton Rouge website to view the full obituary.

Milton Scott, affectionately known by his nicknames Popeye and MT, was born on November 21, 1961, in New Orleans and was raised in Baton Rouge. He departed from this world unexpectedly on November 1, 2025, at his residence in Addison, Texas, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.

A graduate of Capital Sr. High School, Milton was not only an accomplished student but also a dedicated athlete, excelling in both football and track. His outgoing and fun-loving personality made him a beacon of joy, and he had a remarkable ability to connect with people, as he truly never met a stranger. His unmistakable zest for life shone through in all that he did, whether it was engaging in his beloved hobbies of sports, dancing, and listening to music, or simply cherishing moments spent with family and friends.

Milton's unwavering commitment to his family was one of his greatest legacies. He served as a dedicated caregiver to his beloved wife, Barbara Scott. Their bond epitomized love and compassion, as Milton always made it his priority to take care of her with a devotion that was deeply admirable. As a father and grandfather, he took immense pride in his daughters, Candice McKnight and Erica Scott, and his grandchildren Fredrionna Queen, Nydiah Queen, and Frederick Queen, and his great grandchild Zai'lanni Hopkins. His family extended further through his cherished stepchildren: Cynthia (Ronald) Smith, Sonia Jackson, Richard (Oletha) Jackson, Nolan (Kashia) Jackson, and Conswuella (Joseph) Brunson. These relationships brought him immense joy and fulfillment.

Milton's warmth and charisma were reflected in the love that surrounded him, including surviving siblings Wineta (Bernard) Hitchens, Gregory (Patricia) Scott, Louis (Rose) Pearson, Lionel Scott, Ronald Scott, and Patsy Pierson. He was also blessed to have a grandchild, a great grandchild, a beloved aunt, Mary (Anthony) Scott and sister-in-law Tonia Dorsey. His  goddaughter, Conessa Matthews, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, will remember him fondly for the laughter and happiness he brought into their lives.

Though Milton is preceded in death by his parents, Milton Sr. and Teresa Toney, his mother, Erma Scott, and sisters Lillie Toney and Deidre Scott, his legacy lives on in the hearts of those he touched.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Milton's life at Grace & Compassion Church located at 6045 Airline Hwy, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on November 15, 2025. The viewing will take place from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM. Burial immediately following at Resting Place Memorial Garden 14040 Locust St., Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70819.

In remembering Milton Scott, we cherish the stories shared and the countless smiles he inspired. His spirit, characterized by love, laughter, and a touch of humor—often punctuated by his memorable phrase, “don’t call or come with that monkey foolishness”—will forever resonate within our hearts.
