Eleanor Joan Gunsarcik (Gunn) Niemann, 90, of Ellington, CT, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.
Born on December 11, 1934, Eleanor was the cherished daughter of the late Adeline (Stepanowski) Gunsarcik whom she admired deeply and from whom she drew great strength and inspiration throughout her life. She was the beloved wife of the late Kenneth Niemann, with whom she shared 53 beautiful years of marriage. Kenneth predeceased her 20 years ago, and not a day passed without Eleanor missing him and longing to be reunited with her beloved husband.
Together, Eleanor and Kenneth built a fulfilling life, raising their six children with unwavering love, dedication, and discipline. They worked side by side running the family farm and gravel bank - a testament to their shared work ethic and commitment to providing for their family. Eleanor was a strong woman, deeply rooted in her values, who led by example and taught her children the importance of hard work, honesty, and compassion.
Eleanor is survived by her children: Kathleen Luginbuhl and her husband Dale of Ellington, CT Kenneth Niemann Jr. and his wife Michele of Bellows Falls, VT; Russell Niemann and his wife Ardith of Ellington, CT; and Ronald Niemann and his wife Sandy of Enfield, CT: and Jayne Niemann of Brooklyn, CT; along with many extended family and treasured friends. Eleanor was predeceased by her daughter, Susan Niemann.
Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren: Stephen, Dean, and Jonathan Luginbuhl; Jennifer Daniels; Joel, Nathan, and Naomi Niemann; Jessica Harney; Corissa Dubord; Janel Laudano; Drew Kadow; Matt Kadow; Denise Williams; and Ryan Jordan. Eleanor was also a proud great-grandmother and great-great grandmother to several, who brought her immeasurable joy.
Eleanor found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. She loved spending time with her family and friends, sharing meals, stories, and laughter. In her later years, she found joy in shopping trips and occasional casino outings, where she was known for her enthusiastic rounds at the penny slots. At home, Eleanor cherished the quiet company of her beloved cats in earlier years, along with the simple joy of watching hummingbirds' flit through her yard - peaceful moments that brought her great comfort and delight during those times. Her sharp tongue, quick wit, and keen memory made her unforgettable to those around her, and her strength of spirit was admired by all who knew her. Her family would be remiss to not mention her love of jewelry and her immense, diverse collection.
A gifted cook, Eleanor was known for her comforting meals and her ability to make everyone feel welcome. Proud of her Polish ancestry, she lovingly passed down traditional family recipes - from pierogi to stuffed cabbage - ensuring that her heritage lived on through the meals shared around her table. Her home was a place of warmth and tradition, where family came first.
Her family takes comfort in knowing that Eleanor is now reunited with her beloved Kenneth and daughter Susan. Her memory will forever be a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
All are welcome to join her family at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road in Vernon for a time of visitation on Friday, May 16, 2025, from 10:00 am-12:30 pm with a service to begin at 12:30 pm at the funeral home.
