Mary Sue Niemann

Mary Sue Hampton Niemann 91, passed Saturday June 28, 2025, at The Chateau Girardeau, Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
Born August 10, 1933, to Clarence "Brick" and Mabel Kurre Ritter. Sue graduated from Jackson High School and Southeast Missouri State University. She earned her master's degree in elementary education.
Sue married Chuck Hampton August 11, 1957, in Jackson, Missouri.
She taught in Fargo, North Dakota, and O'Fallon, Missouri, before moving to Quincy, Illinois, where she taught second grade at Ellington Elementary from 1968 until her retirement. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ and was active in the choir and Couples Club.
Sue later married Steve Niemann on May 28,1991, in Sacramento, California. They split their time living in Jackson and Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Clearwater, Florida. Sue was an avid reader, loved quilting, and traveling - especially the Florida beaches.
Sue was a member of the Emanuel United Church of Christ, the P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter DJ, and The Red Hatters of Jackson.
She is survived by sons, Tod (Susie) Hampton of Cape Girardeau, Brad (Val) Hampton of Chatham, Illinois, and Tim Hampton of Wichita, Kansas; stepchildren, Ron (Sally) Niemann of Del Norte, Colorado, Jan (Bob) Weiss of Carbondale, Illinois; grandchildren, Bailey Hampton and Carly (Duncan) Cooper; step-grandchildren, Heather (Mark) Shipley, Meghan (Damien) Hagadorn, Tony (Maggie) Niemann, Cheri (Rod) Ahlrichs; great-grandchildren, Adilyn Sue Hampton, Olivia and Theo Cooper; step-great grandchildren, Luke Shipley, Dylan and Ethan Hagadorn; nieces; Robin Burger, Emilie Hamm; and nephew, Ben Ritter.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband Steve Niemann; a brother Dr. C. John Ritter; and her parents.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. to service time, Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. The Rev. Sam Roethemeyer will conduct the funeral service at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 2, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson.
