Eleanore Hyer, 83, a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, beloved sister and treasured friend, passed away peacefully, with her daughter by her side, at The Village at Meadowbrook, Matawan, New Jersey. Eleanore was born on October 8, 1941, in Newark, New Jersey. She grew up in Nutley before moving to Keyport, New Jersey in 1960. It was in Keyport that she found a true sense of community and joy. She moved to Matawan this year, where she spent her final months.
Eleanore was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert Hyer, in 2002; her father, Andew Fenton (2001); her mother, Sophie Fenton (1995); and two dear brothers, Andrew Fenton and James Fenton. She is survived by her loving daughter, Tracey Alvarez and her partner David Osuch Sr., and her pride and joy-her grandsons, Tyler Alvarez and his wife Nina, Travis Alvarez, and Troy Alvarez. She also leaves behind her devoted siblings; Dolores Moran and her husband, the late Richard Moran, Robert Fenton and his wife Jane, Richard Fenton and his wife Sharon, and Sonia Freda and her husband Alex Freda, along with many loving nieces and nephews. Eleanore was a devoted, daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Eleanore dedicated much of her life to hard work and service. She worked as a waitress at Stanley's Diner, where she met the love of her life, Robert. She continued her career at the Ye Cottage Inn for over 30 years and she also worked at The Buttonwood Manor, Matawan, New Jersey. In addition to her work in hospitality, she spent over three decades at Engineered Precision Casting in Middletown, New Jersey.
A proud and active member of the Eastern Star, Monmouth Chapter #251. Eleanore served on the Grand Staff with honor and commitment. Her deep love for her hometown of Keyport was evident to all who knew her-she could often be found walking through town, exchanging warm greetings with neighbors and friends who always made her feel seen and appreciated. She was often seen volunteering at the Ministerium Food Pantry or reading magazines at the Keyport Library.
Eleanore had a special gift for nurturing beauty-whether through her vibrant yard or the warmth of her home. Above all, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her grandsons, who were the light of her life.
