Elfrieda Hanlon, 95, passed away during the early morning hours of Monday, September 1, 2025. She was born to Albin and Elizabeth (nee Schlosingerova) Wied on December 10, 1929, in Czechoslovakia.
After losing her father at a young age, Frieda and her mother relocated to Germany. When she was 19, she met a young American Soldier, John Robert "Bob" Hanlon, who stole her heart. She married that soldier on September 3, 1949, in Germany. After the war, they moved to the United States together. They enjoyed 52 wonderful years of marriage until his passing on April 11, 2002.
Frieda enjoyed a career in cosmetology, specializing in hairdressing. When she wasn't making others look their absolute best, Frieda and Bob were at their clubhouse fishing and spending time outdoors. Those who knew her best would describe her as having a spitfire spirit, one she kept till the very end.
Frieda is survived by her daughter, Pat (Kevin) Carson; son, Anthony Hanlon; grandchildren, Katrina (Kevin) Ingram, John Robert (Summer) Cates, Jenny (Charlie) Johnson, Craig Carson, Lindsay (Phil) Von Hatten, Lainey (Mike) Bogaski, and T.J. (Katie) Hanlon; as well as Knowell "Patrick" Aaron Carson, Eyston "EJ" James Carson and many more beloved great - grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Albin and Elizabeth Wied; husband, John Hanlon; son, Mickey Hanlon; grandsons, Charles "Patrick" Cates and Christopher Michael Carson; and great grandson, Sawyer Joseph.
A visitation for Frieda will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Herr Funeral Home from 11-1. Funeral Services will begin promptly at 1 with Pastor Ron Habermehl presiding. Burial will follow immediately after at the Caseyville Cemetery.
The family is being served by Herr Funeral Home, 501 W. Main St., Collinsville, IL 62234.
