Elfriede Margret Renoud, affectionately known as Elli, passed away on February 21, 2026, in Copperas Cove, Texas. Born on December 27, 1941, in Sandhausen, Germany, she lived a life filled with passion, warmth, and cherished memories.
Elli was a devoted mother to her biological children, Keith Stephenson (Debra), Sandra Koonce (Danny), and Liza Bybee (Cameron). She also embraced her role as a stepmother to Sherryanna VanZandt (Dale), Tereseanna Cook (Thomas), and Roddell Renoud. Elli’s legacy continues through her grandchildren: Brandon, Dylan, Shane, and Morgan Stephenson; Jessica Hallum, Danielle Bodine, and PJ Retana; Dustin Barber, Shurita Wollard, Raleigh White, Torran Morrison, Marissa Morrison, Christopher Rash, Michelle Cook, Tina Cook, Barbara Morin, and Mark Sutherburg. She was a proud great-grandmother, lovingly remembered by Jackson and Avila Stephenson, Jakson and Aleta Hallum, Dallas and Daniel Bodine, Levi Wilson, and Remi and Thomas Davis. Elli is also survived by multiple brothers and sisters.
Elli was preceded in death by her spouses Walter W. Stephenson and Rodney L. Renoud, as well as her father Robert H. Haaf and mother Margaret A. Schmitt. She was also preceded by her son-in-law Ben Bruce.
Known for her vivid and bright personality, Elli had a passion for cooking delicious German cuisine and tended to her outdoor plants with great care. She had a keen eye for antiques and was an avid collector of dolls and decorative items. Elli found joy in shopping and loved to entertain family during the Easter and Christmas holiday seasons, creating lasting memories for all who gathered around her table.
A funeral service will be held on March 4, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, located at 1105 Main Street in Brownwood, Texas. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 PM at May Cemetery, 18002 US-183 in May, Texas.
Those who were fortunate enough to know Elli will remember her kindness, vibrant spirit, and the warmth she brought into every gathering. She leaves behind a beloved family who will continue to honor her memory.
