Obituary published on Legacy.com by Flamm Funeral Home - Rexburg on Aug. 19, 2024.
Eliah Scott Gordo was born July 25th,2007 to loving parents Troy and Brandee Gordo. He spent his life with his twin sister by his side, leading the family as the oldest sibling (older by one whole minute, and he never let anyone forget it!) Eliah lived every second of his life to the fullest. He had the biggest spirit and packed so much light and love into his 17 years on earth.
Even before he was born his mom knew Eliah was going to keep her on her toes, and he did! Always wanting to be active, Eliah explored his talents in football, soccer, and basketball. The second he held a baseball bat in his hand- something clicked. Baseball was his first love, and he was proud to carry on the Gordo family tradition of playing the beautiful game.
He dedicated his life to playing baseball with accomplishments including- playing with MadCats Travel Ball, playing Varsity for Madison High School, pitching on the Madison Varsity team as a Freshman, playing in the Northwest Invitational, PBR Idaho State Games Invitational, and more. His last time on the mound he pitched a perfect three up three down. Recently, he had his first college prospect reach out to him. But for Eliah, it wasn't about the accolades, he just truly loved baseball. He built strong relationships with his teammates, coaches, and dad through the shared love of the game. When he was playing, he was truly happy. Even parents from the opposing team would comment on his obvious joy while being on the field.
His famous million-dollar smile wasn't just reserved for baseball. Eliah lit up any room he walked in. Making genuine true friendships was second nature to him and he had the unique ability to make friends anywhere. Once on a trip to Mexico, his parents found him riding a donkey up and down the street with a boy he had just met, acting like the best of friends even though they didn't speak the same language! He would even make friends with kids on opposing baseball teams, in the middle of the game, chatting over second base! No one was surprised when the entire team they just beat would show up to the next game, just to cheer Eliah on. His spirit was magnetic, he made others lives better just by being there.
To the Gordo's, family is everything. Eliah was lucky to grow up surrounded by good food and a large, loving extended family. The Gordos loved to travel together and shared many special memories on road trips to baseball tournaments. They recently had the amazing opportunity to take a month-long trip to the Dominican Republic to be together and escape the Idaho cold. Eliah agreed to leave behind his friends and life in Idaho- but only if he could play baseball! His dad went to work finding him a group to train with. The experience he had there, along with the genuine friendships made with the players was a true highlight in his life.
Affectionately known as E, Yeih, YA-YA, Beans, Coconut, Butterfly, Son, and Guapo (because he was muy Guapo!). Eliah was a man of many nicknames and lots of personality. If he was around, no one was ever bored. He was known for his love of Takis, fortune cookies, and Hot Cheeto Burritos. He loved music and would often steal his dad's bump box and blast the house full of his favorite songs while he took a shower- leaving no hot water for the rest of the family! Eliah loved to tease and joke with family and friends. His heart was so full of love and fun, he would do anything he could to spread that joy to others.
If he wasn't playing baseball, Eliah could be found fishing. If they were by the ocean he would catch a fish with his casting net, and after a quick Google search to make sure it was edible, he would proudly provide dinner for the family. He and his mom loved to bond while fishing on the weekends. He was able to out fish her (once!) and he considered that one of his greatest accomplishments! He and his dad were developing his new found love of golf, and playing together in the Dominican Republic was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Eliah was happiest with his favorite people focusing on the little things in life. He found so much joy riding in the car with his sister listening to their favorite songs, and was always happy to play a game of catch with his little brother. He was a protective brother, teaching Isaiah important things like how to not be afraid of the ball, and teaching Jaida how to pick out a boyfriend who was good enough for her! He loved spending time with Daisy and found so much happiness with the wonderful friends he was surrounded with.
The impact Eliah had on this world is evident by the outpouring of love and support his family has received during this difficult time. He loved without judgment, gave selflessly to anyone in need, and always cheered for the underdog. Eliahs heart was too big for this world. We know he is still showing off that smile, playing baseball on the fields in heaven. And to him, we say- Eliah, "Give 'Em The Salsa!"
Eliah is survived by his father Troy Gordo, his mother Brandee Gordo, sister Jaida Alexis Gordo, brother Isaiah Cruz Gordo, and a large, loving extended family.
