It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Elisa "Lila" Montes Nieto on August 18, 2025.
Born in Los Fresnos, Texas, to Isabel and Leonor Montes, Lila remained a proud lifelong resident of her hometown. She attended the Los Fresnos School District, where she met the love of her life, Luis Nieto Jr. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising three cherished children: Lelina, Luisa, and Luis III, who were the center of her world.
Lila was known for her vibrant personality-she had a gift for making those around her laugh until they cried. Her presence lit up every room, filling it with love, warmth, and joy. Generous and kind-hearted, Lila was always there for others, offering her unwavering compassion and support.
A hardworking and devoted mother, she dedicated herself to providing for her family. She excelled in the food service industry and proudly opened "Lila's Family Restaurant," a beloved spot in Los Fresnos. When her father fell ill, she selflessly stepped away from her business to care for him, and later lovingly cared for her mother until her peaceful passing at the age of 100.
Lila found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved playing Chalupa bingo with family and friends and had a passion for arts and crafts-especially jewelry making, canvas knitting, and creating festive holiday pins. Holidays were especially meaningful to her, and she delighted in decorating her home and yard with festive cheer. Above all, Lila's greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren, who brought endless happiness into her life.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 58 years, Luis Nieto Jr., their children Lelina (Richard Lee) Uribe, Luisa (Ramiro) Nieto Sierra, Luis (Venese) Nieto III. Her siblings Maria Isabel Guerrero, Artemio Montes, and Daniel Montes. Her grandchildren Amber, Autumn Lily, Luis IV, Tina-Kaye, Tino & Tiona and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Cayetano Montes.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate care of Dr. Diana Lozano and staff.
Entrusted in her final resting is Thomae-Garza Funeral Home 395 S. Sam Houston Blvd., San Benito, TX with visitation on Sunday August 24, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
Visitation will resume on Monday August 25, 2025, 8:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. with church services to follow at St. Ceclia Catholic Church, 606 W. Ocean Blvd., Los Fresnos, TX at 1:00 p.m. and interment to immediately follow at Mont Meta Memorial in San Benito, 26170 FM 345.
