Elizabeth Ann Bates (Liz), 90, of Louisville, passed away Monday, July 1, 2024.
Liz was a graduate of Manual High School and was inducted in the National Honor Society. Her first employment was a secretary to the Special Investigation Unit of the Air Force. She later worked at the Veteran's Administration Hospital and then finally retired from Jefferson County Public Schools as an Executive Secretary.
She was a beloved wife, married 65 years prior to her husband's death, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
She was a member of Buechel Park Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, John Charles Bates, her parents, Marie (Ferguson) and Joseph Pilkenton, Sr., brother, Joseph Pilkenton, Jr., sister, Marie Stammen, and her grandson, Alex Bates.
She is survived by sons, John Bates, III, and Glen Bates (Angie); daughter Marsha Brown (Terry), grandchildren, Jennifer Smith (Mike), Kristi Mathis (Brett), Donnie Brown, Casey Bates (Stefanie), Candice Byrne (Brian), and Abby Bates (Jeremiah Boley); great-grandchildren, Savannah Smith, Charlie Smith, Beckham Mathis, Landon Mathis, Hudson Boley, Saylor Bates, Marley Bates, Aiden Byrne, Brock Byrne, Gunner Byrne, and Nolin Byrne.
Her visitation will be from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. with service at 5:00 p.m. Funeral will be held on Friday, July 5th, with the procession from Highland Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. to Kraft Funeral Home, New Albany, IN. for the 12 noon burial.
