Elizabeth Jane Buff Sexton

Elizabeth Jane Buff Sexton, age 82, passed away on October 7, 2025. Born on April 10, 1943, in Columbia, South Carolina, Jane brought light and joy into the lives of all who knew her.
Jane's passion for music and dedication to her faith were evident through her longstanding commitment to Mt. Herman Lutheran Church in West Columbia, SC. There, she served not just as a devoted member but also as the church pianist and organist for many years. Jane cherished her career as a teacher. Family was the cornerstone of her world; she cherished every moment spent surrounded by those she loved. Jane often filled her home with the warm sounds of music or entertained guests with card games or delightful meals. Jane loved to travel and has visited many countries and many US states. As self-declared and proud 'Army wife' Jane "served" alongside of Gene for the duration of his military and Civil Service career.
She possessed a green thumb, finding solace and joy in the beauty of her flower beds. She had a particular fondness for pansies, their vibrant colors and hardy nature reflecting her own spirit. Those who knew Jane would speak of her generosity and caring nature without hesitation. She embodied love and selflessness, enriching the lives of family, friends, and strangers alike.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Heyward E. "Gene" Sexton; and parents, T.J. and Eleanor Buff.
Jane is survived by her son Tom Sexton, daughter-in-love Cher and grandson, Grayson Sexton; as well as many beloved friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with Pastor Cliff Pace officiating. Interment will follow in the Georgia National Cemetery.
