Elizabeth Ann Gauze

Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Gauze (Sroufe) of Michigan Center went home to be with our Heavenly Father in her home on June 4, 2024.
She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Lee and Debra Bilby of Albion, MI, Douglas and Wendy Bilby of Jackson, MI, and David and Brenda Gauze of Jackson, MI. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Lori, Mike, Dierdre, Ryan, Hannah, Caleb, Kriz, and Seth, and 11 great-grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by 2 sisters, Ethel and Patricia; 3 sisters-in-law, Joyce, Nancy, and Kathy; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and her beloved pet cat, Danni.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Barbara Sroufe, and 7 other siblings.
Betty was born on October 11, 1940, in Michigan to Paul and Barbara Sroufe, She was one of 10 children. She was a member of New Horizons Community Church in Jackson. Betty retired from the Jackson County Department on Aging, where she worked in the kitchen and previously served as a driver for Meals on Wheels. She was also a longstanding member of Parents Without Partners in Jackson and, more recently, a member of the weekly "Breakfast Club" at Alpha Coney Island in Jackson. Her family meant everything to her, and she also cherished many long-lasting friendships. Betty was a strong, hardworking, and independent woman and a proud mother.
The family will host visitation on Thursday, June 20th, 2024, from 5-7 pm at New Horizon Community Church at 4300 Lansing Avenue, Jackson, MI.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, June 21st, at 11 am at the church. A meal will follow after the service. A graveside burial will take place at a later date.
