Elizabeth (Grass) Giaquinto
Elizabeth Helen (Grass) Giaquinto, 79, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2025 at Complete Care in Meriden after a long illness. She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Andrew (Bud) Giaquinto of West Haven.
Born April 21, 1945 in Derby, CT, she was the only child of her parents, Lloyd and Mary (Olenechuk) Grass of Seymour. Betty graduated from Seymour High School in 1963 where she excelled in being the Drum Majorette in the school marching band.
Betty, as she was known to her family, was beautiful inside and out. She was known for her sense of style and humor. After her mother crushed her dream of being a fashion model, she worked for many years at SNET, driving to New Haven in her VW bug with the license plate LIZ. While working at SNET, Betty met the love of her life, her husband, Bud. After marriage, Betty and Bud moved to the beach in West Haven. She loved to travel with Bud, enjoyed going on cruises, and trips to Yankee Stadium. One of her favorite memories was meeting Billy Martin, manager of the Yankees.
Even though she was unable to have children of her own, she channeled her nurturing nature to rescuing neighborhood cats and feeding Canada geese at the local park. She always kept a loaf of bread in her car for the geese. Elizabeth had an enduring love of animals. She especially enjoyed spending summers as a child at her uncle's dairy farm in upper state NY.
Betty loved the Golden Oldies music of the 50's and 60's and loved singing her favorite song, Blue Bayou. Elizabeth also enjoyed watching Perry Mason, The Golden Girls, and True Crime documentaries.
Betty is survived by her cats, Giovanni and Guiseppe. She leaves her Uncle Ken Kanyuck, and seven cousins, Alan, Bill, Carol, David, Jody, Joe, and John and the rest of the Olenechuk clan.
The family would like to thank the nurses from Complete Care, Collette, Gia, and Natasha, as well as Heather from Beacon Hospice for all the compassionate care given to Betty.
Visitation will be held at Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 122 Waterbury Rd, Prospect, CT 06712 on Friday, March 21, 2025 at 5 p.m. A memorial service for Elizabeth will begin at 6 p.m.
