Elizabeth Ann Gilbert, 59, of Lafayette, Indiana, died 2:03 pm, Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at Franciscan Health in Lafayette. She was born on Sept. 9, 1961, in Wabash, Indiana, to Max E. and Shelby Jean (Van Zant) Gilbert.
Elizabeth was a 1979 graduate of Southwood High School, attended Franklin College where she played volleyball, and graduated from Ball State University. She worked for H.U.D. as in inspector for several years. Elizabeth enjoyed traveling, listening to music, and was an avid animal lover.
She is survived by her mother, Shelby Jean Gilbert of Wabash, brother, Eric (Nora) Gilbert of Houston, Texas, three aunts, Judie (Bill) Silvers of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Marilyn Komechak of Fort Worth, Texas, and Luann Coy of Fort Wayne, and uncle, Larry Van Zant of Fort Wayne. She was preceded in death by her father, brother, Douglas Jay Gilbert, sister, Christina Lynn "Chris" Gilbert, and grandparents, Russell and Evelyn (Snyder) Gilbert, and Kenneth and Dorothy (Schultz) Van Zant.
Funeral services will be 2 pm, Thursday, June 17, 2021, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with David Phillips officiating. Burial will be in LaFontaine I.O.O.F. Cemetery, LaFontaine. Friends may call one hour prior to the service, Thursday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is American Diabetes Association.
