Elizabeth Gobbel Obituary

Elizabeth Prather Gobbel was born June 14, 1925 to Perry Franklin Prather and Jesse Hoyt Williams Prather. She was born again in 1970 and took her first steps on the streets of gold on March 7, 2023.
Liz graduated from Duke University, where she met her late husband Walter Gobbel, MD. It is hard to know if he was first drawn to her exceptional beauty, her bright mind or her gracias personality. She was highly invested in raising three children and helped elect numerous republican candidates for city council, governor, state legislature, congress and president, having been very active in the campaigns for Howard Baker, Dortch Oldham, Maxie Jarmen and Bill Brock. Liz also enjoyed her extensive gardens and served as a judge for daylily shows around the country.
Those of us who have survived her remember her numerous interests and activities, but none compare with her apparently easy commitment to loving well. She was an incredible mother, grandmother and friend. She listened without judgment or commentary. She extended understanding and grace to numerous confessions of misdeeds, provided wise counsel to the lovelorn, and offered concrete help to the foreigners and immigrants in Nashville. She taught cross stitch, English composition, and driving. She provided clothing for Sudanese Lost Boys and became an extended family member to many internationals. Her greatest contribution was raising children and grandchildren who adored her because she was such a good listener and loved so unconditionally. Her impact on those she loved will be felt for generations to come.
She is survived by two daughters and two sons-in-law (Margaret and Doug Schmechel and Susan and Thomas Siami), six grandchildren (Daniel Moore, Michelle Soll, Lizzy Moore, Matthew Siami, John Siami and Joseph Siami), ten great grandchildren ( Sophia McEntee, Daniel Nouwen Soll, J. Wes Soll, Annie Grace Moore, Isaiah Moore, Mia Moore, Luke Siami, Mark Siami, Perry Siami and Calvin Siami) and one great great grandchild (Kida Mae McEntee).
There will be a visitation Monday March 20, 2023 from 9:00 am until the Celebration of Life 10:00 am all held at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home 9090 Highway 100 Nashville, TN 37221.
