Elizabeth "Libby" Watson Gramling of Henderson, TX, was born on March 9, 1932, and passed away on June 25, 2025, at the age of 93. She was the eighth child of R. J. Watson and Lizzie Palmer Watson from Mt. Enterprise, TX. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Margie Flanagan, Reagan Watson, Gordon Watson, Susie Loe, Norma Barnhart, and Billie Watson. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Ozzie Gramling of Henderson; her sons, Ozzie Gramling II and Alan Gramling, both of Henderson; her sister, Louneita Grubbs of Mt. Enterprise; and many nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth had a great sense of humor and often sent funny cards and clippings to her siblings. Whenever family members received mail from Libby, they knew it would bring laughter.
After earning both her bachelor's and master's degrees in Education from Stephen F. Austin State University, Elizabeth spent thirty-five years in teaching and administration roles in Abilene and Marshall, TX. She also worked at various schools around Henderson. Libby was a member of the National Education Association. She was a longtime member of Henderson First Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for many years. Together with Ozzie, she helped establish the College and Career Sunday School class at the church.
One of Elizabeth's greatest gifts to her family was her love for their history. In retirement, she developed an interest in genealogy and conducted extensive research on her family's lineage long before computers were common, tracing their roots back to the early 1600s and beyond. Elizabeth was an active member of the Order of Descendants of Ancient Planters, the National Society of Colonial Dames, the Nacogdoches Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Republic of Texas. She held dual membership in the James Haggard XVII Chapter in Nacogdoches and the Susan Constant XVII Century Chapter in Shreveport, where she once served as chapter president. Additionally, she served as the Librarian General in the National Society of Colonial Dames from 2011 to 2013.
Funeral services for Libby will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with Dr. David Higgs officiating, at Crawford–A. Crim Funeral Home. Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. until the service time. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park in Henderson. Pallbearers will be her family members.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church of Henderson at 207 W. Main St., Henderson, TX, or to a charity of your choice.
